BC Garn Loch Lomond
BC Garn Loch Lomond
The first of my European Yarns!
Loch Lomond is a tweedy yarn with neps. It is woollen spun, giving it both volume and a good long meterage that will work for DK projects on a larger needle and even sport-weight patterns on a smaller needle at a tighter gauge.
It is GOTS certfified – from sheep to dye stuff, from production to stock keeping and packing, each step is inspected carefully and in line with very strict organic and social standards.

Now based in Germany, BC Garn began in Denmark in 1996. It was founded by Bo Carstensen, the son of a weaver and a rug wool trader, and situated in Kolding on the Baltic Sea. Later joined by his wife Marianna, the company’s focus has always been the development of natural fibre yarns and, more latterly, GOTS certified yarns.
In Spring 2018, Marianna and Bo handed over the company to Britta and Carsten Kremke in Germany, who have continued to build the brand in the tradition of its Danish founders. Almost all of the yarns are produced in Europe although most of the wool and alpaca is sourced from South America and silk from India.
GOTS (Global Organic Textiles Standard) Certification requires:
Ecological and species-appropriate husbandry
Cultivation of cotton without any fertiliser or pesticides
Harvesting of cotton by hand
Biodegradable and pollutant free dyes
Fair production conditions with appropriate wages and no child labour
Prohibition of heavy metals, formaldehyde, chlorine bleach, PVC, Nickel and Chrome
Prevention of waste and reduction of waste water
