Tuesday 18 March 2025: Belyse Mitts

Tuesday 18 March 2025: Belyse Mitts
10.30am – 3.30pm
These fingerless gloves combine traditional colour work with a modern fingers-to-cuff construction.
In this workshop we will work the fingers first using an innovative technique similar to working an i-cord that was first developed by Meg Swansen, building on techniques developed by her mother, Elizabeth Zimmermann.
Once the fingers are made we will join them together and progress to the colour work. In the construction of these mitts, based on classic Norwegian Selbu mittens, the thumbs are positioned close to the side of the hand, and shaped with a single column of decreases on the palm. The shaping allows the colour work pattern to flow from the back of the hand over the thumb.
This workshop is suitable for knitters with some experience of using DPNs and working in the round. It is not suitable for beginner knitters.
The cost includes:
Purchase and print out of pattern from Ravelry
Sport weight yarn in two colours sufficient for 1 pair of mittens
Tuition
Buffet lunch and light refreshments
VAT
Please advise me by email at the time of booking of any dietary requirements.
Please bring 3.25mm DPNs with you on the day. If you need to purchase needles for the workshop, please let me know in advance so I can be sure to have enough available.
